About

Philosophy

I have always been passionate about design. It was not until I had experienced University, Europe and the work environment, that I realized and felt confident enough to apply to the School of Architecture at Waterloo University in Waterloo, Ontario when I was 27 years old. The ensuing years of academic struggle never daunted my goal of eventually setting up my own practice. After 30 years of continuous practice, I still say: “One cannot live by passion alone, but it sure helps!”

I have always endeavored to do my best in whatever project I take on, but sometimes, it is not enough. Perfection is unachievable, but the journey towards it is worth striving for. In my experience, complete trust and honesty between my clients and myself is fundamental to a successful project completion.

Having first started practising in the Caribbean, a Third World area without the benefits of adequate infrastructure, I learned that out of necessity one had to practice sustainable and environmental design. This education still directs my designs today.

I have never taken for granted that budgets are just ideas to start the design process. Project costs make or break a project. That being said, flexibility, patience and creativity will produce lasting results. My mantra has always been : “Attention to detail.”

The nature of my work; the places where I have lived and practised; my ideas on healthy living; my travels throughout the world; and most importantly, my family, have all led me to a fruitful life full of promise and expectations. Here is to the next 30 years!
